Wayne
graduated from University of Newcastle with First Class
Honours and University Medal. He was also awarded a Rugby
Blue after representing Australian Universities. He then
went on to complete a Master of Business Administration
at University of NSW.
Wayne started his career
client side first with AMPOL Petroleum and then Tooheys
Ltd, where he went on to become Marketing Manager. After
a brief stint running Spectrum Research in SE Asia, he joined
Monahan Dayman Adams as Managing Director of what was then
Australia's largest locally owned advertising agency in
Melbourne.
After the merger and public
listing of MOJO MDA, he went overseas to set up MOJO in
USA and UK. Wayne returned to Australia in the late 80's
to begin what was a successful decade as Chairman and CEO
of DDB. In that time the agency grew to number 3 in Australia,
was Agency of the Year (twice) and Wayne was appointed to
DDB's Worldwide Board.
After setting up his own communications
consultancy in the late 90's, he became a principal shareholder in
Boomerang in 2004.
Partner: Barry Groom
(BA (Hons) Cert DM)
Barry graduated with honours from the University of
Sydney and later tutored in historical archaeology.
From there he worked as an archaeological consultant and also wrote a number
of books on aspects of Australian history, before spending a number of years in
the arts and museum administration fields.
He then went on to a career in direct marketing fundraising, creating campaigns
for a wide range of major clients in the not-for-profit sector, before accepting
a senior creative role with Ogilvy & Mather Direct in Sydney. He then went on
to become Creative Director of K&D Bond Direct.
In 1992 he co-founded Boomerang and today devotes most of his time to strategy and
creative development for a range of clients.
Barry has won a number of direct marketing awards and was recipient of The David
Ogilvy Award in 1991.
